Our Background

Where Mikilyuto came from.

The platform was built in Sheffield by a team with direct experience in both software development and small business operations. The frustration that shaped it was real.

Built out of a specific frustration.

The idea behind Mikilyuto didn't come from a product roadmap. It came from watching a small retail business spend roughly half a day every week organising financial records that could, in principle, organise themselves.

The invoices were there. The bank statements were there. The accounting software was there. What was missing was a layer that connected them automatically and intelligently. Everything had to be done by hand.

That observation led to a question: why does software that handles complex operations in almost every other area of business leave bookkeeping as a manual task?

The answer, we found, was mostly historical. Existing accounting tools were built around accountant workflows, not small business owner workflows. The gap between what was technically possible and what was practically available was significant. Mikilyuto was built to close that gap.

What guides us

A few principles we've held from the start.

Transparency over cleverness

Automation should be visible. When the system categorises an invoice or matches a transaction, the logic should be something a user can see and understand. Black-box decisions create more problems than they solve.

The accountant stays central

We've always believed that automation and professional advice work better together than either does alone. The platform is designed to improve the accountant relationship, not circumvent it.

Fit existing habits

People shouldn't have to change how they operate to use new software. Mikilyuto connects to tools businesses already use. It works around existing patterns rather than demanding new ones.

Errors flagged, not hidden

When something doesn't match, the system says so clearly. Surfacing discrepancies is more valuable than smoothing them over. Good records require honesty about what's uncertain.

Where we are

Sheffield-based, UK-focused.

Mikilyuto operates from Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The city has a long history of practical industry and a growing technology sector. Both feel like the right context for a platform built around useful, applied automation.

Our focus is specifically on UK small businesses, with all data handling and compliance built around UK regulations from the outset. This isn't a global platform adapted for the UK market. It was designed for it.
